America is single-handedly outperforming every state in the world in terms of having been able to install most of the Bitcoin/crypto enabled Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). However, the year 2021 was also great in terms of having installed as high as 20K Bitcoin-powered ATMs globally. The number of installations in 2021 is far bigger than the number of ATMs installed from 2014 till December 2020.
The number of crypto-enabled Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) has been increasing worldwide. ATMs are no more used only for taking out fiats or depositing fiats into them. Instead, they have been modified for the convenience of users who want to use cryptocurrencies like fiat.
At present moment, there are more than 34,000 crypto-enabled ATMs installed in many parts of the world. Out of these 34,000 ATMs, 20 thousand of them were installed in 2021 alone as per the data supplied by Coin ATM Radar.
The concept of crypto-enabled ATMs was initially introduced as far back as seven years ago i.e. in 2014. However, from 2014 till 31st December 2020, only 14,000 such ATMs were installed globally. This shows that as compared to 14k ATMs installed in 7 years’ time, the number of machines installed in 2021 is humongous. In terms of having the most crypto-powered ATMs installed in a single year, 2021 is by far the best year for crypto ATMs.
Prior to 2021, there were only 13K ATMs that were Bitcoin enabled but since then the number of Bitcoin ATMs has increased exponentially. As of today, there are around 33,000 ATMs that are not only crypto enabled but also Bitcoin powered as well. Now such machines can easily be found anywhere in the world and provide great convenience to the users.
But when it comes to having most of these ATMs, then no country can get into competition with the US. Currently, the US is the biggest crypto ATMs hub having more than 90% of the global ATMs housed within. For example, there are more than 3,300 ATMs machines alone in the US. While in the US neighboring country, Canada, there are only 2,200 of such machines while Canada holds the second position in the world.
The number of Bitcoin-enabled machines is also increasing rapidly in the country of El Salvador. This is particularly because Bitcoin is an official ‘national currency’ of El Salvador and therefore Bitcoin ATMs increase is necessitated. However, against the US, the number of Bitcoin ATMs in El Salvador is almost to none i.e. only 205 machines are there. The good thing about El Salvador though is that it has left behind Europe, the UK, and Africa in terms of having most of Bitcoin powered ATMs.
It is expected that the number of such ATMs will be doubled by 2021.
